Exercise helps enormously. Make it a routine to go for a 10min walk every time you start feeling the anxiety growing. Do not let the anxiety go up before you can act because when you're in the middle of an anxiety attack it's hard to think straight or make yourself do something about it. So, catch it in the beginning and when you do, drop everything, and go for a walk. I know about panic and anxiety attacks; have experienced them personally.I am able to tell when they're coming up. Tuning into the body you can feel them coming and prevent them from escalating by taking simple actions. Simple walking will not raise the heart rate. You can walk at any pace you feel comfortable. Others might prefer to jog or even run. I relied a lot on my bike. You can make yourself so happy or your body so full of endorphins that your anxiety attack never shows up to ruin the day. Get 30 or 60 home trial (not free though)Don't know if they in US http://www.electronichealing.co.uk/products/alphastim_100.htm you can use the alpha stim for depression, etc just the same..Treating Anxiety, Depression, and/or Insomnia with CES The Alpha-Stim® 100 treats anxiety, depression, and/or insomnia with microcurrent using a method called cranial electrotherapy stimulation (CES). The treatment is very simple. The current is applied by easy to use clip electrodes that attach on the ear lobes. Used just 20 to 40 minutes every day, every other day, or on an as-needed basis, it can help induce a pleasant, relaxed feeling of well being. The Alpha-Stim® 100 is well tolerated and very safe in contrast to drugs used in the treatment of mood disorders, many of which have been proven to have undesirable side effects and can be addictive. Unlike drugs, the Alpha-Stim® 100 leaves the mind alert. Anxiety reduction is usually experienced during treatment. Depression and insomnia control is generally experienced after one to two weeks of daily treatment. CES can also help treat the underlying mood disorders associated with pain. It may be used as an adjunct to medication and/or psychotherapy. After treatment, there are usually no physical limitations imposed so the majority of people can resume normal activities immediately. Maintenance of a relaxed, yet alert state is generally achieved with treatments three times per week. As a result, the Alpha-Stim® 100 is suitable for clinical or home use http://www.alpha-stim.com/as100/ sometimes you can get lucky on Ebay or amazon... http://www.alpha-stim.com/the-alpha-stim-scs/ This last site gives more info on the SCS model just for anxiety etc.------------------I love the parable, “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, BUT if you teach him how to fish, you feed him for life.”

Lexapro is awesome for anxiety, mild side effects comapred to Ativan.
Many people start on meds, then are able to wean off when they introduce other means into their program of healing.
I used to just walk it off, deep breath and walk, get away from noise, whatever may have caused the panic attack.
They suck.
I know~
